Travelling from Victoria to Darwin for 2 weeks quarantine seemed like an eternity. Darwin was chosen by the team as we were allowed out of our rooms for exercise and the weather was better.
Thursday 15th October:
I had raced at Bathurst in 2019 in the T86 series. However, nothing prepared me for the force of a Supercar on such a tough track. We rolled out of the truck with solid pace, but our P1 session was halted prematurely by an alternator issue.
P2 was going very well, starting to find my groove, I was producing Pole quality times. I decided to stay out for 1 last lap on my old tyres but got bitten by the Mountain after a moment at Skyline sent me into the wall at the Dipper. Lesson learned the hard way!
Friday 16th October:
After a big night, doing my best to help the crew, we rolled the car out for Quali not knowing if the shunt would affect the rest of the weekend.
I can’t say I wasn’t feeling the pressure, but I managed to gather my thoughts and produced a P2 for race 1.
Race 1 was an amazing experience; the car was fantastic. Passing the pole sitter on lap 2 of 16 I took the chequered flag by over 30 seconds. Testament to the fabulous team at MW Motorsport.Â
Saturday 17th October:
Q2 produced 3 red flags, giving us only a single flying lap. Luckily the lap was good enough to get us on pole.
I struggled getting the car off the line for Race 2 which dropped me to P3. I managed to work my way back to P1 and had an awesome battle with seasoned racer Jon McCorkindale, taking the win and the round win, whilst keeping my clean sweep of winning every Super3 I have started.
My thanks to all my sponsors, MW Motorsport and family for the opportunity to make my Supercars Bathurst debut. Can’t wait for 2021!
